Round table meet on digitalisation technologies and agri-food sector

A round table discussion meet to initiate joint research collaborations and academic cooperation with researchers from Tartu University was organized in Estonian University of Life Sciences on 12th December 2022.

The focus theme relied on exploring various avenues for the application of digitalization in the agri-food sector. The emphasis was on identifying present gaps and finding practical (digital) solutions for the recurring sustainability challenges in the Estonian agri-food systems. Topics discussed were related to edge/fog computing, cloud computing, IoT platform, sensor methods, traceability, robotics applications and frameworks for the digitalization process in the agri-food industry.

Mehrdad Asadi, Research Fellow of Pervasive Computing together with The Distributed and Pervasive Systems Research Group is planning to collaborate on adapting sensors for automating agriculture processes in the food supply chain. In particular, we are looking forward end-user solutions for the estimation of the quality of fruits and vegetables using sensors.

The meeting was coordinated and moderated by Rajeev Bhat (Professor ERA-Chair in Valortech). The Director of Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences, Toomas Tiirats chaired the session. The meeting delegates present were Prof. (s) Mati Roasto, Ahmed Awad, Arun Singh, Chinmaya Kumar Dehury and Mehrdad Asadi.
