Women in Science – Shahla Novruzova, Quantum Software Developer

Please describe briefly your research area

My area is Quantum Computing and Information.

What achievement in your career are you proud of?

One achievement I am particularly proud of in my career is being involved in a project that contributes to the cutting-edge technologies of the century in one of the leading universities in Europe. Having an education in theoretical physics and experience in various positions – as a teacher, researcher and instructor at different higher education institutions in my home country, I am determined to keep developing in science and become a motivation to other women who have similar goals.

What do you especially like about being a scientist?

In my position at the University of Tartu, I find continuous development as a scientist by confronting and overcoming challenges that test my current skills, allowing me to cultivate new ones in the field.

From 5 to 11 February, the University of Tartu will hold a theme week "Women in Science". During this week, we would like to highlight the work and achievements of our women scientists. The Day of Women in Science has been celebrated in Estonia at the initiative of the University of Tartu and the Estonian Young Academy of Sciences (EYAS) since 2021. The day aims to underline the role of women and girls in science, break stereotypes and encourage women to pursue a career in science.
