On February 14, in Brussels, experts in artificial intelligence from Estonian and European universities, members of the European Commission, and technology attachés from member states gathered to discuss the development trends and opportunities for becoming a world leader in the field of secure artificial intelligence.

As the first company in the Estonian food industry, Nõo Meat Factory, together with the Institute of Computer Science at the University of Tartu, will start testing novel artificial intelligence and robotics solutions.

The Estonian Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, led by the University of Tartu’s Institute of Computer Science, will address scientific issues of importance to Estonia. The government will support the centre of excellence with 7 million euros over seven years.

Over the next seven years, the government will fund ten centres of excellence addressing scientific issues of importance to Estonia. The University of Tartu has tight connections with all of them.

On 16 October, the first cooperation seminar of Tallinn University of Technology and the University of Tartu’s consortium of the Just Transition Fund was held at the Virumaa College of the Tallinn University of Technology. The event brought together 22 research teams whose work will help develop technologies and monitor societal transition in the Ida-Viru region over the next six years.

Together with colleagues from the UK and Sweden, the UT Institute of Computer Science is organizing the first international workshop on the Testing of Automated Driving Systems.

The Teaming centres of excellence in digitalised bioengineering and personalised medicine at the University of Tartu are expected to become lighthouses in the region, attracting the best scientists and bringing change to the innovation landscape nationally and internationally.

Today starts the three-day IT Summer School ESSCaSS (Estonian Summer School on Computer and Systems Science), which brings more than 120 researchers, doctoral students and students from Estonia and abroad to the Delta Centre.

Thanks to cutting-edge research at the Institute of Computer Science, BetterMedicine, a company that automates the analysis of cancer CT scans, has received a boost. BetterMedicine was recently awarded a €2.5 million grant from the European Innovation Council's Accelerator.
