A team of computer science students from the University of Tartu performed successfully at the ICPC European Programming Championship held in Portugal, achieving 13th place out of 53 participating teams.

The ICPC European Programming Championship took place from February 28 to March 2 at the University of Porto. Our team consisted of computer science students Andres Alumets, Jaagup Tamme, and Marko Tsengov. In a highly competitive field, they brought home the best result among both Nordic and Baltic countries for the University of Tartu. You can see the competition results here.

In previous years, our students have competed in the Nordic and Northwestern European programming contests, but this was the first time they earned a spot in the Europe-wide championship. Participation in this competition is limited to teams who have performed exceptionally well in regional contests.

Unfortunately, the Estonian team narrowly missed out on a bronze medal, as medals were awarded to the top 12 teams. They also came very close to qualifying for the World Finals of the programming championship, which only the team in 11th place managed to do. Nevertheless, this result is a strong motivator for future achievements, as it clearly shows that we can compete successfully with the best in the world.
